Round 65: Zvook

I was back home in St Hilary for Christmas and so I thought I bring a little plush cheer up vibe back home with me too! I left this dark purple Zvook in the porch to the Church last Wednesday I think. I noticed he was still there a couple of days later but there was a service this morning so hopefully he's found a new home now!

This is Zvook! He's a new to Spikeworld. I whipped him up the other week and you can expect to see some more of him around here soon! I left this particular Zvook by the church on Westville Road in Roath. I found a relatively dry spot near the back door where I hope he kept dry until someone took him home. I think the church was called St Edwars if anyone's interested!

Hello Nomm! :) I left this little monster down a little alley way just off Blenheim Road in Roath. I found a nice little shady spot there last night. I hope he didn't get to soggy before someone found him and took him home.

Well it's all been a little quitet on the 'secret mission' front of late. This has mainly been due to the horrendous weather we've had. I think the little critters would have drowned or at the least got swept away in a torrent of rain water had I left them around town last month. Things are getting a little colder and more importantly a little colder now though so look out; here they come! I left this little pink Prrap in Cathays on the way home from the studio tonight. He was left on a dinky little side road, possibly called Thesiger Close(?), that I had never even noticed was there before tonight. Well I hope he cheers someone up soon!

Well I was subjected to some rather interesting(?) staff training this afternoon in the Lecture Theatre at UWIC Howard Gardens. I left this little green Nomm beneath the seats near the back on my way out in the hope that he might cheer up some poor student whilst they listen to a thrill-a-minute lecture about the Italian Renaissance or the like!

I've hit sixty! I can't quite believe I've left 60 of these little critters around Cardiff so far! I left this little Gnarp up near the Heath Park on a tiny little side road just off King Georges Avenue. It was absolutely tipping it down as I cycled home from the studio so I hope he didn't get too soggy!!

I left this 'ere little Koochki up by the Heath Hospital this evening on my way home from the studio. I found a cosy little spot for him next to a little tree. I just hope none of those Zombies that were about tonight ate him! :)

Here's another October drop. I left this little badboy in the gloom along the Taff Trail near Llandaff on the way home this evening. It was a little dark but I found him a cosy spot out of the direct line of the scary cyclists.

This badass little Snarffi was left in Bar One at the Wales Millenium centre yesterday evening. I found a cosy little spot for him under one of the tables there. I hope he cheered up someones day later that evening.

PS: I should have said that I actually chickened out of using the 'Secret Mission' labelled tags that I blogged about earlier and swapped them back to my 'S' tags to retain a little anonymity. I've recieved a few emails from folk who have found my monsters recently anyway and I think I'd like to keep it that way!

I've been a bit slow with the ol' Mission this month but I have a small army of monters awaiting to be unleashed upon the world at the moment. I had a little works jolly down to Cardiff Bay yesterday and so I took a couple of plushies with me to sprinkle across town on the way. I left this little lilac Snarffi on the train between Cardiff Bay and Queen Street. hopefully he was picked up and given a new home by a happy Wednesday morning commuter.

Well another month has passed and so here is the first drop for October. I left this little badboy in the car park at Chapter last night whilst dropping off some more badass plushies for the Helen Frik toy project. Hopefully someone has given him a lovely home now!

Hopefully he's found a nice new home now. This was the first plushie to be dropped with my new tags! Woot! I've something of an army of the little blighters at the moment so there should be a few more drops coming before the month is out! Watch this space.

Right it's taken me about two weeks to post this little critter up here because I've been so busy with my MA show. I left him in the garden/park to the kids play centre-nursery type place next to Howard Gardens the Monday before last I think. The lovely lady who looks after that centre actually sent me an email to say thanks and that the kids were looking after him Apparently she googled the text on the label and found me! Get that - it's taken 53 drops for someone to do that and bizzarely just before a switch to the tags with the weblik on them! Whodathunkit?!

New Creatures

Well here we have a couple of new designs. You may recognise the pink one at the top as he a slight reworking of the 'Gnarp' plushie that I knocked up a couple of months ago. I wasn't very happy with that design so I tweaked it a little as you can see. The blue one below is brand spanking new. I wasn't sure at first but I think it's quite a cute design so I think I'll roll this out shortly. Any suggestions for a name for it will be very welcome!

I was discussing the Mission with friends and they found it totally incredulous that I was remaining totally anonymous when dropping plushies especially given my excitement at the thank you card I recieved a while ago. Wow! Well drop 50 has snuck up on me out of the blue. I had planned to make a special plushie for this drop to mark the half the century but it seems that in my whirlwind dropping session last night I've already gone and dropped plushie number 50. Damn! I'll have to wait for drop one hundred now! Anyhow this little Koochki was left along Llanblddian Gardens last night near a skip. There was a show on at the Sherman last night by the look of things so hopefully one of those theatre goers had a nice surprise on the way home.

Right, while since I'm not going to be at work for ages and ages due to my MA commitments I decided to sign off with a double drop there yesterday before leaving. I left this badass Prrap in the lift in N-Block at UWICs Llandaff Campus. Who knows who might mind him first; one of the canteen staff delivering hospitality? The cleaners?! Given how few people there are around there this time of year he might well still be there!

This little Ghomp was the last of my early morning drops on Wednesday as I had to hit the road. I found a nice little spot for him at the huge Tesco on Western Avenue. He was safe from the drizzly weather as I left him near the trolley shelter after I stocked up on Haribo and Ginster's Pasties.

Here is another little Nomm. You might notice a difference between these following plushies and the previous 43; that's because I've started filling them with polystyrene balls instead of wadding. This gives them a more 'beanie baby' feel. Hopefully they'll be a little more cwtch-able. I'm not convinced yet but I've several bags of the buggers so it's tough. Anyhow this little monster was left by St Teilo's Well near the Cathedral in Llandaff on Wednesday morning.

Well say hello to Gnarp you lovely people. You may recognise him from an earlier post where I put up some pics of new designs I was working on. I'm not totally chuffed with him yet. I think the design needs a little tweaking; maybe rotating through 90 degrees. But, I've made him so he needs dropping and this I did in the we small hours of Wednesday morning before my great Northern adventure. I left him on the little monument in Llandaff village by the green.

I'd like to think one of the lads from the Round Table picked him up on their way past on their charity bike ride but who knows where he's ended up!?

Nomm number two. I left this one at the top of Cathedral Close on my wander this evening. Llandaff village ain't half a weird place at ten thirty on a Sunday night. It was like a scene out of Midsommer Murders just prior to the kill; a tipsy portugreek family wandering by, two lads sat in BMW having a smoke and young woman loitering just off the path through the green for longer than you would expect!

Had myself a little wander around Llandaff village this evening dropping plushies. I left this Struup at the catherdral. This was my tenth Strupp apparently! Woot! I left him in the grounds of the cathedral but decided against leaving it on a grave or monument just in case anyone took offence.

New Designs

Well here they are. I whipped up these little badboys this evening. I've even got some new purple felt! They are based on the doodles I posted the other day as you may have already noticed. I think the template for the short fat purple one needs a little tweaking but otherwise I'm quite chuffed. I think my own designs, as opposed to Struup and Keeff who are based on the ugly dolls, are getting a little more abstract. That's definatey a good thing!! Anyhow I'll be dropping these someplace tomorrow so keep your eyes peeled for them!

I've been having a doodle this evening trying to come up with some new plushie designs. I think I might phase out the Struups and Keeffs as they are a bit too close to the ugly doll designs. Beinig some of my original pluhies they will always be a little special though. Anyhow these little doodles pictured are some of my favourites. I'm not sure how the jellyfish-esque one might work though. That one might have to remain a design for my more 'badass' selection of individual plush toys. hopefully I'll have some new all singing designs to bring to the secret mission very soon. Unfortuantely when making him I forgot that I had grubby paint covered hand and so he's got a bit of a blemish on the back of his arm. I haven't dropped a any plushies for a week or so as I have been having a little adventure in northern Norway chasing the Northern Lights. Anyhow, I'm back and so are my plush toys! It's a while since I dropped a Xorr. This one was left in a trolley shelter at Tesco on Western Avenue on saturday night. It was a proper late night drop so hopefully it'll have given a little cheer to some trolley herder working in the wee small hours!

Well this was a shocker. I left this Struup at Howard Gardens on Wednesday morning and didn't think much more of it. Anyhow, I arrived at my seminar and Christian turned up pulled Struup out of his bag and announced 'look what I found!' I wasn't expecting that. Especially given that there are only about 10 folk on the MA with me so the odds of them finding a plushie are slim compared to that of a random. Anyhow since they don't know Spike I kept my trapped zipped. There was a brief discussion about it though and I was surprised to find how suspicious he was of opening the bag. He suggested there could be a recorder hidden in the plushie or that it could be covered in something unpleasant! I never really gave much thought to how suspicious people might be of my plushies! Then again it could just be Christian! I've a feeling he's the paranoid type!

I dropped this little badboy by the entrance to the Children's Hospital at the Heath. That's the second time I've dropped near there. Somehow it feels right leaving them there for the kids as I pass through on my way home from the studio. That siad I bet it's the early shift staff that bag them! Tut tut!

Things are a little slow at the moment what with everything else that's going on! Maybe I should start dropping a couple a night? I'm going to end up with a mountain of the the little blighters if I either don't get back into the swing of dropping them or don't stop making them! Anyway this little Struup was dropped down near the door to Cardiff University's Senghenydd Halls on Senghenydd Road. It'll be have been a nice surprise for someone stumbling home drunk in the wee small hours no doubt!

Well after a little break I'm back! Whoop! Whoop! I was a bit tied up recently with Christmas and a rather nasty essay for my MA! But that's all finished now and I've started dropping little plush toys all about town again.

I left this phat-ass blue Ghomp around the corner last night by the Mosque (at least that's what I think it is!) on Glynrhondda street. I almost didn't notice the security cameras at the front of the building and got rumbled but I managed to keep out of it's way in the end!

How lovely is this: Whilst back home in St Hilary over Christmas I left a couple or plushies around the village as you'll have seen from my previous posts. Well my Dad was having a stroll about th village and informed me that there was a card by the church door that he though was for me! Of course I was intrigued so I went to check it out and lo and behold look what I found...

It seems that Kells was picked up by some lovely little girl called Amy! It seems he found a very nice home indeed! Thank you for your card Amy!

Things have been a little quiet lately what with my trips to gay-Paris and that little thingy-me-bob they call Christmas but let me introduce you to Ghomp:

I left this little badboy at the Lytch gate by St Hilary church for one of the old dears to pick up with their morning paper. However, I was on my way past there the next day and found dear old Ghomp on top of the paper box. He had clearly been picked up, man-handled and put back because his tag was the wrong way around. What's wrong with folk around here? Can they not accept a freebie when they see one? Well on the way back from the pub I swung by and left him on the doorstep for the church so hopefully one of the Christmas eve midnight mass posse will have picked him up on Christmas eve. That's the last time I leave a treat around here; the ungrateful so-and-so's!

I'm back in the village for Christmas so I dropped this little plushie by the doorway to St Hilary village church. I found a suitably nice dark corner so that should be a nice treat for whoever opens up the place for tomorrow morning's service. He's not one of my favourites i must admit: I think the pattern needs a little work to plump him out a little.

Anyway i'm off to Disneyland for a couple of days for a wee little holiday so there'll be no plushie drops from me until Christmas eve at least!

I've just got back from plushie drop number three. It was a green Keeff this time that was left near the door to the Heath Citizens Community Centre (at least that's what I think it's called). Here are the pictures pre-drop off.

I suppose it would be good to get some pictures of the plushies in situ but it's kind of awkward to do that without drawing attention to myself. I'll have to see what I can do though.

Round 2: Struup

Well I left this little beauty round the back of one of the churches on Charles street at about 10pm last night. I can't remember the name of the church but its the one with the annex at the back where the No-Fit State circus train.

I think the next little monster to be dispatched around town will be a green Keeff. I need to find a suitable spot though. It's amazing how difficult it is to find a suitable spot though.

And so it begins! I left my first plushie out around town today. I decided to leave the first one in the grounds of the Heath near a doorway by Cardigan House. I think that part of the Heath is where all the med students live. It seems fitting to be the first location for a plushie drop as they are all do-gooders! I was actually surprised at how difficult it was to find a quiet location to drop it with out anyone seeing! Anyhow the first plushie to be left around town was a pink 'Keeff'. I've posted the pictures of him below.

Spike's Secret Mission

Welcome to my Secret Mission Blog. Over recent weeks I have accumulated a small army of plushies. For those of you who don't know what a plushie is here's a picture of one I made earlier:

I find myself making them whilst waiting for my artworks to set in the studio or when I have a spare hour or two at home. I have given a couple of these away to friends and family but I was at odds as to what to do with the rest of them. Perhaps I have been inspired by the so called season of goodwill but I have decided to scatter them across Cardiff as presents for strangers.

I've printed up some tags with the logo from my website on one side and the follwing message on the other:

"Hello! My Name is......................
I'm lost! please take me home with you and look after me."

These will be tied to the plushie and they will be placed in a zip-seal bag to keep them safe from our rather grizzly winter weather. I've had this plan in mind for about two weeks and now I'm all ready to rock and roll! Let Spike's Secret Mission Commence!!
